Size 750 mL x 12

Descriptors:
Family-owned and operated since 1999, Maryhill Winery, located in the world-renowned Columbia Reiver Gorge, has built an award-winning portfolio of exceptional character and distinction, sourcing grapes from Washington State's most highly regarded vineyards. Their dedication to their craft, growers, staff and customers has brought them great satisfaction and joy. They thank you for the honor of letting them grace your table.

Throughout harvest, Winemaker Richard Batchelor worked closely with local growers and visited each vineyard to taste for maturity and ripeness to determine the precise moment to pick the fruit. Grapes were hand-harvested during the cool hours of the morning to preserve bright fruit notes. Sourced from their collection of vineyards throughout Washington, each lot underwent a five-day pre-fermentation cold maceration for color and fruit extraction. The fruit was kept separate by varietal and warmed up to begin the native yeast fermentation. Once pressed, these wines were blended in similar lots for style and underwent Malolactic fermentation in tanks containing 40% new French Oak staves. At such times, the wines were slowly micro-oxygenated to enhance the softening of the tannins before the wine was blended. Aged on oak in tanks for 11 months.

Descriptors:
Throughout harvest, Winemaker Richard Batchelor worked closely with local growers and visited each vineyard to taste for maturity and ripeness to determine the precise moment to pick the fruit. Grapes were hand-harvested during the cool hours of the morning to preserve bright fruit notes. This wine was fermented separately and then blended before bottling to allow the tannins to meld together. Each lot underwent a five-day pre-fermentation cold soak before the tank was allowed to go through a native fermentation to dryness lasting roughly 21 days. To craft this wine, only the free run juice was collected, and no press fraction was blended. The lots were then barrel aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak. For the first year, this wine was stirred in the barrel on its lees and racked when necessary to soften the tannins. After the first 12 months, the wine was racked off the lees for clarity and blended.

TASTING NOTES: Notes of sweet tea and lavender on the nose, with a jammy palate of blackberry and honey leading into a long-balanced finish.
Vineyard Notes: Gunkel Vineyards 100% (Estate).
Aging: Aged for 20 months in 60% new French oak.

Wine and horses are central activities in the daily life of Quinta de São Sebastião and are closely linked to its history. Both are activities that depend on man’s relationship with nature. In case of the horses this relationship is represented by the “Arreio”, Portuguese word for Harness, as a representative piece of the intervention of man. In the wine, this relationship is represented by the way our winemakers, using the latest winemaking practices combined with millenary knowledge, can produce a wine of excellence. This wine is produced through two renowned varieties, Touriga Nacional and Cabernet Sauvignon, which perfectly adapt to the Atlantic and temperamental climate of this region.

There are many who smell the wine, we prefer to inspire it. Because to inspire is to have time for the aromas to be revealed and recognized. And this well-inspired sense can identify more than 1,000 different aromas. Secrets that are released and inspire us to create new wines, full of emotions. There are many who say they hear the wine, we prefer to listen to it. Because listening is about learning its secrets, its revelations, its stages of growth. Listening is knowing its movement in the glass and what a sip sound like. “His passion is not the wines, but what they tell about a place. And a place, for the winemaker, is made of many things: the physical place, the atmosphere, the surroundings, its history and above all, the potential it has when inhabited by the right people. It is similar in an estate, in a company, in a house and even in a street. He believes that places hold the stories of those who live there. The connection to the land comes from childhood memories, especially the passion for horses, the feeling of freedom and the relationship of kinship that they demand. This is the spirit in which he dedicated himself to the production of Quinta de S. Sebastião Wines.
